Family Advisory Council
Planning meaningful volunteer and mission opportunities for the whole family!
We often hear from parents that they would love to volunteer with their children to show them what it's like to give back. With that in mind, we formed the Family advisory Council, made up of parents with young children and a desire to serve. The purpose of the FAC is to provide valuable information to the staff of GSM about how to better provide opportunities for whole family ministry and volunteerism that makes sense for families with children of all ages.
Out of our first meeting came the Summer of Service (S.O.S.) Beginning in June, every third Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be set aside for special family and group volunteer projects. These times are open to anyone interested but may come with special themes just for fun.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 17, in honor of Father’s Day, we are inviting all of you guys to come volunteer with your sons. We promise you won’t have to handle women’s clothes but we will have some special projects set aside for you and your son(s) to work on together. You might be restocking the pantry; packing Food For Thought, Homeless or Homebound boxes; putting shelves together, inspecting electronics to make sure they are in good working condition or any number of other “manly” projects. We do ask that you please let us know ahead of time if you are planning to attend so we know how many projects to arrange for the day. You do not have to stay for the full four hours. One or two hours is plenty to complete a few projects and share valuable bonding and teaching time with your son(s).
We are very excited about some of the ideas our first meeting of the FAC came up with and their enthusiasm to serve as family units. We will share more information as it becomes available, but please like and follow us on Facebook for all of the up-to-date information about Good Samaritan Ministries. And, as always, if you have any questions, please give us a call at 643-2273.
